A NiDCOM-published profile states that Dabiri-Erewa was born in Jos, Plateau State, on October 11, 1962. A Great Ife Alumni Association citation records that she earned a BA (Honours) in English from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, in 1983. She subsequently spent 15 years at the Nigerian Television Authority, where the alumni citation identifies her as an anchor of Newsline.
Dabiri-Erewa represented Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2015, winning elections in 2003, 2007 and 2011. NiDCOM's biography states that she chaired the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs from 2003 to 2008 and the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs from 2008 to 2015.
Her parliamentary record included work on access to public information. A United States Institute of Peace report identifies her as a sponsor of Nigeria's Freedom of Information bill and as a governmental supporter of its passage.
After leaving the House, Dabiri-Erewa served in a presidential role concerned with foreign affairs and the diaspora, although reviewed sources differ over whether her formal title was Senior Special Assistant or Senior Special Adviser. The Senate confirmed her as head of the diaspora commission in May 2019 and confirmed her reappointment for a second term in May 2023. As of August 22, 2026, NiDCOM's team page and a July 2026 State House release identified her as the commission's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
NiDCOM states that its chairman is appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation and serves a four-year term renewable once. The reviewed evidence documents the Senate's confirmation of Dabiri-Erewa for a second term on May 23, 2023, but does not establish a separate swearing-in or effective commencement date for that term.
